Carmen Penido was born in Campinas in Sao Paulo State. She moved to Salvador to study at the School of Fine Arts at the Federal University of Bahia, where she graduated in 1991. From 1991 to 2001 she attended a number of courses at the Art Students League in New York .
Carmen's pictures in their elaborate design and rich tapestry wonderfully reflect Brazils baroque past as evoked by the blue tiles to be found in many notable buildings.
